Star Wars Insider Is Ending After 30 Years - And It Feels Like the End of an Era

I'll be honest - I wasn't a regular reader of Star Wars Insider, but I loved knowing it existed. It felt like one of those comforting constants of the galaxy far, far away. A physical reminder that Star Wars wasn't just a franchise - it was a fandom with texture, stories, and pages you could actually hold.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Star Wars Insider will officially end its print run in early 2026, wrapping up with issue #237. The December issue (#235) will celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Force Awakens, which is wild to think about on its own. The magazine has been around since 1994 - and even longer if you count its origins as the Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine and Bantha Tracks newsletter. That's nearly four decades of interviews, behind-the-scenes stories, short fiction, and fan love bound together in glossy pages.

Editor Christopher Cooper put it perfectly in his farewell statement: publishing has changed. We live in an age where fandom happens online, on feeds and forums, not in print. Still, there's something poetic about flipping through a Star Wars magazine - a little slower, a little nerdier, and somehow more sacred than scrolling through hashtags.

As Star Wars heads toward its 50th anniversary in 2027, it's bittersweet to see the last piece of that print-era fandom fade away. But if there's one thing the saga has taught us, it's that endings are never really endings - they're just the beginning of the next chapter.
